I live in a multi-family dwelling. How can I charge my car overnight?

Theoretically, you can charge an e-vehicle using a conventional power outlet. But using an e-Golf as an example, it takes 17 hours to recharge the battery on a standard 2.5 kW household power outlet. The better and faster solution is a wall box. This is a charging station with a special connector installed on an outside wall or in a garage. A wall box is about the size of a vacuum cleaner and generates charging power ranging from 11 to 22 kilowatts.

Before you install a wall box, however, you will need permission from your landlord or homeowners' association. Incidentally, a wall box must be installed by an electrician and costs between €500 and €2,500 (without installation). Starting in 2020, Volkswagen will be supplying its own, affordable wall boxes.
