Charging Day at DRIVE

Charging solutions and technologies for electric vehicles were featured at Charging Day in Berlin. In his keynote speech, Thomas Ulbrich focused on how Volkswagen is building up a charging infrastructure by. The company is planning to build 36,000 charging stations across Europe by 2025, including 11,000 under the Volkswagen brand. In total, the Volkswagen Group is investing around €250 million in expanding the charging infrastructure at its European sites.

“Charging infrastructure is increasingly becoming the key factor for the rapid breakthrough of e-mobility in Germany. Charging an e-car has to be as easy and natural as charging a smartphone. Above all, we need many more charging stations in public areas and simple rules for the installation of private wall boxes. Volkswagen wants to set an example here and is committed to building up the charging infrastructure at all levels,” explained Thomas Ulbrich at the Charging Day in DRIVE.

“When economics and politics join forces, we can tackle charging infrastructure challenges very quickly – in the same way that we need to work together to create the technology-driven structural change in our industry. Germany needs a master plan for e-mobility.”
